There are many types of adoption: independent adoption, agency adoption, step-parent adoption, adoption by a close family member, interstate adoption, and re-adoption of a child lawfully adopted in another country. Each adoption type is treated in a different manner under Florida law. In most cases a proceeding to terminate the parental rights of the birth parents precedes the proceeding for adoption. In all cases the services of an experienced attorney are needed.
